This Sunday's message: The Song of Zechariah

December 6

Today's Reading: Matthew 1:18-25

A lot of what we'll be reading this Christmas season is so familiar to us that the danger is we'll fail to see the wonder surrounding the birth of Jesus. We could certainly do that here with Joseph.

In his culture, having the women he was betrothed to become pregnant before the marriage took place was much more shameful than it is in our culture today. Btu Jacob was an honorable man who wanted to do what he could to protect the reputation of Mary. But he was also a godly man who was willing to do what the angel instructed him to do, even though that couldn't have made much sense to him.

Do you have that kind of character? Are you honorable and willing to protect the reputation of others? And are you willing to do what God commands, even when that goes against cultural norms or doesn't make sense?
