This Sunday's message: The Song of Zechariah

October 30

Today's Reading: Psalm 37:1-40

Read the passage and answer these two questions:
  1. What doe this passage teach me about God and His attributes?
  2. How should that understanding about the nature of God impact the way that I live my life?

My observations from Psalm 34:
Here we see a God who delights in responding to those who humbly cry out to Him. He is a God who hears and listens to His children. He is also a God who takes the action that is needed to redeem those who cry out to Him.

Although God promises to deliver the righteous "out of" their afflictions (v. 19) that does not mean we won't face difficulties in this life. The very next verse is a prophecy of Jesus. Even though none of His bones were broken, Jesus suffered tremendous agony on the cross - all for our benefit. God didn't keep Him from going through that pain and suffering, but He did raise Him from the grave. That is often how God works in our life, too. We may go through pain and suffering here on this earth, but those who have put their faith in Jesus will also have a bodily resurrection of their own one day. That is why we can have hope in spite of our circumstances.
