This Sunday's message: The Song of Zechariah

October 26

Today's Reading: Psalm 33:1-22

Read the passage and answer these two questions:
  1. What doe this passage teach me about God and His attributes?
  2. How should that understanding about the nature of God impact the way that I live my life?

My observations from Psalm 29:
This psalm revolves around two words/phrases:
  • "the voice of the Lord"
  • "glory"

There is definitely a connection between the two. Let's focus first on the word "glory" which is the English translation of the Hebrew word kavod. It stems from the root word for weight and can mean glory, honor, respect, distinction, and importance.

In our culture "glory" is often used to describe fame that comes with some kind of human accomplishment.  Or it might also describe beauty, especially in an artistic application. But biblically, kavod indicates worth and value, and results in praise.

So the idea here is that once God speaks and we encounter His majesty, we can’t help but respond with reverential worship. Today God speaks to us primarily through His Word. That means that when we read the Bible, it should result in the highest level of respect, awe, and devotion.
