This Sunday's message: The Song of Zechariah

October 20

Today's Reading: Psalm 18:1-50

Read the passage and answer these two questions:
  1. What doe this passage teach me about God and His attributes?
  2. How should that understanding about the nature of God impact the way that I live my life?

My observations from Psalm 11:
Here we see the omniscience of God. He alone knows the hearts of man and can judge rightly. He alone can perceive evil and righteousness. And because He is righteous, He love righteous acts and hates evil. We also see here that God "tests the righteous". Throughout the Bible God does test His people. But the purpose of those tests is to prove that they are genuinely His people. I love how Peter expresses this truth:

1 Peter 1:6–7 (ESV)
In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

This truth should be a great encouragement to us when we face difficulties in our lives. We need to remember that God is not using those trials to "break us", but rather to "make us".
