This Sunday's message: The Song of Zechariah

October 19

Today's Reading: Psalm 11:1-7

Read the passage and answer these two questions:
  1. What doe this passage teach me about God and His attributes?
  2. How should that understanding about the nature of God impact the way that I live my life?

My observations from Psalm 9:
The main attribute of God that stands out to me in this passage is the fact that He is eternal. He is not bound by space or time. We need to keep that in mind in order to rightly understand much of what David writes in this Psalm. For instance, in verses 5-6 we read about how God has judged the wicked - past tense - even though we certainly see evil prosper in our world today. David uses the past tense to indicate that God's judgment of the wicked is assured, even though we may not see it right now (David certainly didn't see that either).

The implication for my life is that I need to view the events of today in light of eternity. I think that is especially true right now as we see event unfold in the Middle East. While we might not know exactly how things are going to unfold there, we can be sure that they are are under the control of a sovereign God and part of His plan to ultimately bless those who have placed their faith in Jesus and judge those who have not.
