This Sunday's message: The Song of Zechariah

October 16

Today's Reading: Psalm 6:1-10

Read the passage and answer these two questions:
  1. What doe this passage teach me about God and His attributes?
  2. How should that understanding about the nature of God impact the way that I live my life?

My observations from Psalm 5 from Friday:
The first thing that stands out here is the righteousness of God. He is completely holy and righteous and therefore He cannot allow evil to dwell with Him. I am reminded that at one time I was an enemy of God and incapable of entering into a relationship with Him based on anything I could do.

However, we also see God's love and grace. As we see in verse 7, David is aware that it is only because of God's steadfast love, and not anything he could do, that he can enter God's presence.

One important implication for my life is that I need to make sure that I don't focus on one aspect of God's character and ignore others. If I only see God's righteousness and not His love, I may "beat myself up" or run from God when I see my own sinfulness. On the other hand if I see God as "love period" I will fail to mourn over my sin and repent. It is only when I hold all the attributes of God in balance that I am able to fully enjoy the blessings of a personal relationship with HIm.
