This Sunday's message: The Song of Zechariah

October 2

Today's Reading: Acts 2:1-47

When Peter began to preach on the day of Pentecost, he cited the passage from Joel 2 that we looked at a couple weeks ago. Those who were listening would have known that Peter was claiming that the "Day of the Lord" had been initiated by Jesus at His first coming. He also quoted from Psalm 16 to prove that the death and resurrection of Jesus was always God's plan for dealing with man's sin.

When the people were "cut to the heart" but the word of God and asked what they should do in response, Peter commanded that they repent and be baptized. I don't have the time or space to go into a lengthy explanation here, but I am confident in saying that this passage does not teach that baptism is required for salvation. If you'd like to study verse 38 in more detail, here is a link to a good article:

Is baptism required for salvation?
