This Sunday's message: The Song of Zechariah

September 29

Today's Reading: Mark 1:1-45

The Gospel of Mark is attributed by early church fathers to John Mark, whose mother was a prominent member of the early church in Jerusalem (Acts 12:12). It is the shortest, and likely the first of the four gospel accounts to be written. The repeated uses of the words "immediately" and "soon" give this gospel a sense of urgency.

Mark begins his gospel account with the ministry of John the Baptist and cites both Isaiah and Malachi to show that he is the messenger that God promised would precede the Messiah. That is followed by Jesus' proclamation that the kingdom of God is at hand and His call for people to repent and believe in the gospel. Have you needed that call? If not, will you do that today?
