This Sunday's message: The Song of Zechariah

September 5

Today's Reading: Daniel 7:1-28

The Book of Daniel employs a literary device known by the technical term of “recapitulation”. Recapitulation occurs when one event is viewed from two or more perspectives. This device can usually be identified because there are obvious similarities in the various accounts as well as striking differences that reflect the differing perspectives. This chapter is a recapitulation of Nebuchadnezzar’s dream of a giant statue in chapter 2 (we read that chapter about a month ago).

There is far too much going on in this chapter to cover in this short devotional. But if you'd like to go deeper, you can read my sermon on this chapter from 2010:
The Character of the Gentile Nations

The key verses for our purposes are verses 13-14 where we see God the Father give a kingdom and dominion to one described as the "son of man" - a phrase which Jesus adopts as a title for Himself.
