This Sunday's message: The Song of Zechariah

August 31

Today's Reading: Ezekiel 1:1-28

Ezekiel prophesied while living in exile in Babylon. He explained that God’s people had experienced God's judgment because they had worshiped idols and turned away from the Lord. There is judgment and mercy throughout the book; there is pain and new life.

The description of the throne room of God has a lot of similarities with John's description in Revelation 4. I have to believe that both Ezekiel and John were doing the best they could to describe something that is indescribable. Remember that God is not limited by time and space so it's not surprising that when a someone is given a glimpse of God's glory that it is impossible to describe in human terms.

Our challenge with with passage is to not get caught up in trying to diagram what Ezekiel saw or try to figure it all out. Instead, I think the purpose of passages like this is to get us to marvel at God's glory and let it take our breath away. Maybe take some time to read this chapter again and just let it speak to your human spirit about God's magnificent glory.
