This Sunday's message: The Song of Zechariah

July 28

Today's Reading: Psalm 44:1-26

Although we can't be sure, the content of this Psalm seems to indicate it was written during the Babylonian exile. But even if that is not the case, it certainly expresses the thoughts of the people during that time.

This Psalm is what is known as a corporate lament. While the Psalmist is troubled by the current circumstances, he begins the Psalm by focusing on God's faithfulness to His people in the past. That is quite instructive for us when we're going through hard times. Looking back on how God has been faithful to us in the past is a great way to be encouraged as we encounter difficulties in life. We need to remember that God is sovereign over all the circumstances of our lives. And because of His love for us, we can trust that He will always do what is in our best interest, even when we might not be able to see that in the present.
