This Sunday's message: The Song of Zechariah

May 15

Today's Reading: 1 Samuel 9:1-27

The next two days we will read about how God calls Saul to be the first king of Israel.

What strikes me in this chapter is how God is sovereign over this entire process. He uses something as seemingly innocuous as some lost donkeys to cause Saul to end up in the presence of Samuel, who will anoint him to be Israel's first king.

Saul seems to recognize how unlikely it is that he would be chosen as king. He is from one of the smallest clans from the small tribe of Benjamin. That ought to be a hint that Saul's reign isn't going to last too long since we've seen earlier that the Messiah was going to come from the tribe of Judah.

My takeaway from this chapter is that many of the things in my life that seem to be inconsequential or just a coincidence may very well be part of God's plan for my life. Will you join me in praying that God will help us to see everything that happens in our lives as part of His sovereign plan and for us to understand His will for our lives?
