Today's Reading: Psalm 1:1-6
Today, we embark on a new section of our reading plan. This section is titled "Religious Life of the Nation" and we're going to focus on what is commonly known as "wisdom literature". Many of the Psalms, the book of Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and Song of Solomon were written during the early monarchy, under the reigns of David and Solomon..
Psalm 1 was most likely written as an introduction to the book of Psalms by whoever compiled the Psalms. It touches on a theme that is present throughout the Psalms -blessings for the righteous and curses for the wicked.
This Psalm proclaims that there are two ways of living. The righteous man, who delights in the law of the Lord, has a life that is deeply rooted and prosperous (not necessarily financial prosperity). The wicked man, on the other hand, follow their own path and are blown here and there by all the latest fads. Their destiny is judgment.
Which path are you on?
